So this is a going to be a series of posts and blogs about the use of AI in health care. The reason I am keen to do this is because there is a lot of information out there and alot of misinformation about what exactly AI is and how it works.

What is AI?

AI means…… well not alot. There is no set definition of AI and it broadly refers to the ability of computers to think and perform tasks similarly to humans. This is really an umbrella terms for lots of different technologies that aim to do this, so when you hear about AI think about

  1. What type of AI is being used?
  2. How is it being used?

This will help you alot in actually understanding some of the hype around AI in medicine.

These technologies can be effectively thought of as complex algorithms focusing on different tasks. Some analyse language, some analyse pictures, some can learn and adapt from data it has analysed etc…

So in this series I will make posts detailing different types of AI and how they are relevant to medicine, and go through certain specialities and how AI will be used in medicine

So stay tuned to read more about this exciting topic!
